CROSSING ARIZONA Daily Painting # 864

CROSSING ARIZONA

Oil on Panel / 6 x 6 Inches

Ahhh, dry-camped in the desert again last night. Not a sound, scarcely a light to be seen, and a nice cloud cover to serve as a blanket and keep away the desert night-time chill. Had a great night's sleep, then just stayed in camp and rearranged things inside Betsy. Again. I guess I'd better be careful. I could end up organized. Just think what that could do to my reputation.

After I finished today's painting, I took a short drive over to Bouse, at the end of Plomosa Road, and took a few photographs, including one that I played with a bit for today's daily photograph.

I think I'll stick around and explore the surrounding area for a few more days. I was born in Arizona and lived there most of my life and had never even heard of Bouse. There are a lot of parts of both Arizona and New Mexico that I want to know better. It's so easy to fly through an area on the Interstate, and feel as though you know it, when you have no idea of its real character. Funny thing is, it seems to take forever to cross the endless desert that way. But when you slow down, take your time, and get to know it, it seems much smaller and more manageable.

  1. There is nothing like nothingness (space) to make you feel alive. I too love being out in the middle of a big place. A big quiet. This sky is stunning. We are vicariously living your retreat.

  2. Looks like you captured the beautiful sunset. I really miss seeing them and the beautiful colors that was made by them. You don’t want to get too organized and ruin your reputation. (smile) The freedom that comes when traveling your way and seeing the branch of art dealing with the representation of natural scenery so tempting and really missing Arizona.. I envy you.
