Art Walk Thursdays in Scottsdale have really picked up steam again since the last time I can remember. I didn't run into a single artist I knew from the old days, or even from the web. I did run into one old friend, though, Shari Morrison, former publisher of Art Talk. We walked through a few galleries om Main Street, then hopped into her little silver convertible and past the mounted police! to Marshall Way. We had a nice visit with Peter at Blue Rain and were both bowled over by the work of Gregory Scott at Lisa Sette. See it if you can, google it if you can't! Absolutely fantastic and spellbinding! In the gallery you are looking at a large painting of a room with a painting on the wall, then, suddenly, things start happening in the painting in a painting. Some of the impact is lost when you see it on the web, because the real wall that the whole work is hanging on is cropped out, so you're not likely to quite “get it”.
As things were winding down and galleries were closing, I headed back to Betsy, and on the way spotted this scene inside one of the galleries. Snapped it with my iPhone, but the part I wanted was too far away to work as a photo. Those shots often make for the best paintings. Just enough information to get me started.
For a shot of Shari, ever the cut-up…
