Still not on the road, but we did get out of town this evening, following dinner at the Guadalajara Grill. Out to Arroyo Hondo, that is, for a bit of dancing at Herb’s Lounge with our friends the Immels. The cover charge collector sitting in front of the blue door, surrounded by orange and yellow walls caught my eye. Had to paint it.

I spotted this sleepy fellow guarding the lobby of a small hotel I checked into in San Miguel in 2001, on my way to Cuernevaca to celebrate my 60th birthday. I did a watercolor of him while on that trip, or shortly after my return. That little watercolor is now in the Eric Weber and Jay Olson Collection. I love to travel and collect ideas for my paintings, and the result of serendipitous encounters like this one can inspire me for years. I’m wondering what would happen if I traveled more? Lots more? Hmmm, stay tuned
