DOG TIME

I just realized that I hadn’t painted a dog in a while. Not since January, in fact. I used to do a lot of full-sheet watercolors of dogs.Dogs are fun to paint. I photograph dogs on the street, in people’s homes, in cars and trucks, wherever I find them, and, eventually, most of them end up as paintings. I’m kind of getting the itch to do some more watercolors again. We’ll see. These daily oils are keeping me pretty busy, or at least the blog is. Did I mention I’m having the time of my life painting these little six-by-sixes?

UNION STATION, LA Daily Photograph #1623

Union Station LA

UNION STATION LA

One of my favorite places to photograph. Lots of people, interesting architecture, great light, flowers sunshine and palm trees and blue skies. Part of my Amtrak Series. This one is from my trip from Santa FE to California to show in the Randy Higbee 6×6 show in Costa Mesa in April of last year.

Know how sometimes a song gets stuck in your head, or part of a song, and won’t go away? For me it’s usually Frosty the Snow Man or Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. But recently I started hearing a song that I couldn’t quite identify. Over and over. For days. Da da da dum skies of blue da da da dum it’s a beautiful day. Over and over. Slight variations, but never right, never whole. Certainly better than Frosty or Rudolph. Finally, it occurred to me to Google it. And there it was: Satchmo, Louis Armstrong, singing…

IT’S A WONDERFUL DAY

Songwriters: DIETZ, HOWARD / SCHWARTZ, ARTHUR
I see trees of green…….. red roses too
I see em bloom….. for me and for you
And I think to myself…. what a wonderful world.

I see skies of blue….. clouds of white
Bright blessed days….dark sacred nights
And I think to myself …..what a wonderful world.

The colors of a rainbow…..so pretty ..in the sky
Are also on the faces…..of people ..going by
I see friends shaking hands…..sayin.. how do you do
They’re really sayin……i love you.
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsfreak.com/l/louis+armstrong/what+a+wonderful+world_20085347.html ]
I hear babies cry…… I watch them grow
They’ll learn much more…..than I’ll never know
And I think to myself …..what a wonderful world

(instrumental break)

The colors of a rainbow…..so pretty ..in the sky
Are there on the faces…..of people ..going by
I see friends shaking hands…..sayin.. how do you do
They’re really sayin…*spoken*(I ….love….you).

I hear babies cry…… I watch them grow
*spoken*(you know their gonna learn
A whole lot more than I’ll never know)
And I think to myself …..what a wonderful world
Yes I think to myself …….what a wonderful world.

Wow, that one can stay in my head as long as it likes.
