NEARING / Daily Painting #947

Oil on Paper Mounted on Panel / 6 x 6 Inches

I'm not sure I could have painted this before I started doing the abstract paintings that have become so important to me as a daily painter. That's not to say I couldn't do something equally good. It's not that it's better than the way I would have done it before. It's more about meeting a challenge, reaching a goal. Learning something new and growing a bit. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?

Looking back over some of my earlier pieces, I realize that I have, in fact, painted much like this on occasion. But not deliberately. Not confidently. Now, I'm becoming secure in the knowledge that I will be able to repeat the technique intentionally, whenever needed. That's a darn good feeling!

  1. Yes, I see what you mean about a new way, due to the abstract work. I showed this one to my family. Lots of oohs and ahhs.

  2. Horses have always liked be with other horses. They do have power when together. We humans need to learn from them. The more horses the more power is given to us. I have always loved your paintings of horses and the expressions that you paint on their faces. You really bring out their feelings.
