EAST OF LAMY, WEST OF CHICAGO /Daily Painting #964

Oil on Paper Mounted on Panel / 6 x 6 Inches

Somewhere between Lamy, New Mexico and Chicago, I caught a glimpse of this Conrail diesel in front of a grain silo. The morning light triggered an automatic response in me. My old camcorder came quickly to my eye and I captured just enough information, an electronic sketch, if you will, just enough to provide the basis for today's painting, some sixteen years later.

Interesting shapes, interesting light, and a train to boot. All this in a passing, fleeting second. What more could I want on a sleepy morning on a train bound for adventure.

NOTE! I have a special new WORKSHOP coming up in July. Click HERE for details. I hope you can join us.

  1. All the grain silos I saw when farming were not as pretty as this one. The pictures on the train is really worthy of notice. I wish I was traveling behind you in my van so I could see what you see in person. I flew over a lot of trains but never saw one this interesting.
