CARNEVALE
Most Venetian Carnival masks are very fancy and elaborate. Too fancy and elaborate, usually, for my taste. But when I saw this one in my friend Jay’s collection recently, I fell for its simple and forceful presence. White on white, of course, is always a challenge and a temptation. Add the fact that masks are among my very favorite subjects, and you have THE VENETIAN.
TAOS NIGHT
ANOTHER NO NO
This is another of those shots I love to make. I saw this scene, and a figure coming toward me on Kit Carson. I hurried ahead to the spot directly opposite, and got lucky with my timing, as I was using my iPhone4s, and there is a bit of a shutter lag when shooting spontaneously. And that’s just what I had to do, as the woman was moving fast, and I had no time to pre-focus.
The shot was fine as shot, but I tried it as a black and white, which I liked, but I wasn’t quite satisfied, I tried split toning which can be a little clunky in ACDSee, but I picked a yellow-orange, and a blue, and when I saw the result, I knew this was the one I was after.
