HARBINGERS / Daily Painting #1317

Harbingers / Oil on Paper Mounted on Panel / 6 x 6 Inches / Click on the Image to Enlarge

In the summer of ’56, I had a little Harley Davidson 125cc motorcycle. I rode it around Williams and Prescott, Arizona, while it lasted. The thing I liked best about it was being there, being in the open air, the sunshine and the wind. Being able to see all around me with nothing blocking my vision. Feeling alive.

Now I see people riding big, powerful motorcycles, like this couple, slowly, very slowly making there way through the narrow streets of Jerez de la Frontera, in Spain, with their heads tightly enclosed in bubbles. Safe. So safe. But where is nature? Where is freedom, sunshine, the wind, the sounds?

Where do we draw the line between safety and joy? Can there be reward without risk? Will we all, eventually end up living in hermetically sealed bubbles? Living virtual lives, cut off from feeling, hearing, smelling, seeing, experiencing life? Safe from feeling?

Today’s painting is available to the highest bidder. Bidding will end 24 hours after the painting is posted to this blog.

CONVERSATIONS IN A FRENCH CAFÉ / Daily Painting #1139

This little scene caught my eye as I wandered through a beautiful French village in the Acquitane region of Southwest France, on a brief lunch break while teaching a workshop.

I don't recall the name of the village, but I do remember a delightful lunch of duck hearts; and this scene of tourists in the open front of a nearby café. Might the talk have been of sore feet? Or was it about the sights and beauty surrounding them? Maybe they were planning where to go next, or trying to remember the way back to their tour bus.

I promise to keep better notes on my upcoming travels.

DIALOG / Daily Painting #1007

Oil on Paper Mounted on Panel / 6 x 6 Inches

My Everyday People Series is one of my favorites. I've been doing these paintings since the mid nineteen seventies. Having painted the Indians of the Southwest exclusively since the 'sixties, I decided it was time to start painting the members of my own tribe, too.

Be the winning bidder on last Wednesday's painting, PAINTED BISON SKULL, #1000, and help us celebrate this milestone by accepting our invitation to Taos, New Mexico and our home for two days and a night.

Be treated to a free one-day workshop, a photography walkabout, or a driveabout. Your choice. Or just kick back and relax. It's up to you.

We will do all we can to make this a visit to remember.

To bid, email farnsworthgallery@newmex.com, or call Thea at 505 982-4561.

You have until midnite on Wednesday, the 26th, to bid!

But wait, there's more…

As a special thank you to all the wonderful collectors, friends and followers who, through their support and encouragement, have made this blog a success, I'm offering a name your price week. Starting with Thursday's painting, and running for one week only, I am removing the $200.00 minimum. Bid anything you like. The first bid received wins!

So bid today, and be sure to check back tomorrow!
