HARBINGERS / Daily Painting #1317
Harbingers / Oil on Paper Mounted on Panel / 6 x 6 Inches / Click on the Image to Enlarge
In the summer of ’56, I had a little Harley Davidson 125cc motorcycle. I rode it around Williams and Prescott, Arizona, while it lasted. The thing I liked best about it was being there, being in the open air, the sunshine and the wind. Being able to see all around me with nothing blocking my vision. Feeling alive.
Now I see people riding big, powerful motorcycles, like this couple, slowly, very slowly making there way through the narrow streets of Jerez de la Frontera, in Spain, with their heads tightly enclosed in bubbles. Safe. So safe. But where is nature? Where is freedom, sunshine, the wind, the sounds?
Where do we draw the line between safety and joy? Can there be reward without risk? Will we all, eventually end up living in hermetically sealed bubbles? Living virtual lives, cut off from feeling, hearing, smelling, seeing, experiencing life? Safe from feeling?
