WINDMILL AND SCOOTER, VEJER DE LA FRONTERA / Daily Painting #1094

Watercolor / 6 x 8 inches

Vejer de la Frontera was the first of the Pueblos Blancos, white villages of Andalucia, that I encountered on my visit to Spain a few years ago. Other villages, like Arcos and Ronda are more famous, more visited and more tourist oriented. Msore spectacular. But because it was my first, Vejer remains my favorite. Someday, I hope to return and paint them all. Who knows, maybe next year?

TAOS GATE / Daily Painting 1041

Back in January of 2011, I posted a photograph, made from a shot I had taken some years earlier, on my other blog, When a Painter Snaps.

My first daughter, Leah, left this comment:

JANUARY 1, 2011 @ 2:23 PM
This picture is Wonderfull !! It reminds me so much of the gates that I opened when I was a kid and the river was up and we would have to take the long way into town. I must be getting old, it made me cry!
Leah Hurst

Here is that photograph:

And here's a watercolor that I painted today, based on that image:

Watercolor / 6 x 9 Inches.

That is how I work. Some of the time. At other times, I work plein air, usually when traveling. Or I may work from brand new sketches or photographs. I like to keep myself guessing!

Currently, I'm wrestling with just how I want to continue this blog. As you may know by now, I have really loved and thoroughly enjoyed the daily 6 x 6 inch paintings. And the recent Confections have really been a blast. But I am missing the chance to do more of these full-fledged watercolors. I would occasionlly like to work larger, too.

So. here's my thinking at the moment. I'm thinking I will switch from the current format of always doing the same size and the same begining bid, or, as has been the case with the Confections, one price fits all, regardless of size or complexity, to a more varied approach. One that fits not only my love of varied sibjects and styles, but differing sizes and mediums, as well.

I will be offering everything from tiny sketches to full sheet watercolors, to both smaller and larger oils, and just about everything in between. I hope it will be more entertaining than confusing, and that you will all continue to follow along.

By the way, I hope to be traveling again, soon, and will try to make my verbal input more interesting as my adventures unfold.

I hope you will all help me with this. I would love to hear your thoughts. I so appreciate each and every comment, as well as your bids! Please, don't be shy, join in, let's make this blog as interesting as it can be, together.

TASAF KACHINA / Daily Painting #1042

Watercolor / 7 x 9 inches

I've painted this Kachina, and, in fact, this particular doll, fom my own collection, previously on this blog. In fact, this doll was the subject of my first Kachina painting, in the 1960s. To learn more, just search for the name, Tasaf, above. This Hopi Kachina is a representation of their neighbors, the Navajo.

As you can see, I've decided to continue the current series of watercolors. i haven't, however, decided how long this will continue, nor, for that matter, what size I will eventually settle on. My best guess at the moment is that they will settle around 6 x 9 inches. I will probably alternate between the oils and the watercolors.

DESERT ROAD / Daily Painting #1027

Oil on Paper Mounted on Panel / 6 x 6 Inches

Now, here's something I can hardly pass up. I always wonder where a dirt road goes, what mysteries, what surprises it might lead to. I wonder, what is around that bend?
