Currently, I'm wrestling with just how I want to continue this blog. As you may know by now, I have really loved and thoroughly enjoyed the daily 6 x 6 inch paintings. And the recent Confections have really been a blast. But I am missing the chance to do more of these full-fledged watercolors. I would occasionlly like to work larger, too.

So. here's my thinking at the moment. I'm thinking I will switch from the current format of always doing the same size and the same begining bid, or, as has been the case with the Confections, one price fits all, regardless of size or complexity, to a more varied approach. One that fits not only my love of varied sibjects and styles, but differing sizes and mediums, as well.

I will be offering everything from tiny sketches to full sheet watercolors, to both smaller and larger oils, and just about everything in between. I hope it will be more entertaining than confusing, and that you will all continue to follow along.

By the way, I hope to be traveling again, soon, and will try to make my verbal input more interesting as my adventures unfold.

I hope you will all help me with this. I would love to hear your thoughts. I so appreciate each and every comment, as well as your bids! Please, don't be shy, join in, let's make this blog as interesting as it can be, together.

CONTEMPLATION / Daily Painting #962

Oil on Paper Mounted on Panel / 6 x 6 Inches

I decided to try my hand at a character study of a young Oriental man. I don't know if I like it or not. I do like the gesture, which was my main goal. I'm just not one hundred percent sure I'm satisfied with the overall effect. Sometimes you just have to stop, and reserve judgement until you've had a little time to get a fresh perspective.

NOTE! I have a special new WORKSHOP coming up in July. Click HERE for details. I hope you can join us.

POT CARRIER KACHINA / Daily Photograph #924

Oil on Panel / 6 x 6 Inches

If you would like to own this painting, just send your bid in an email to: farnsworthgallery@newmex.com, or call Thea at 505 982-4561.

This oil painting is based on an earlier watercolor version, representing Sivu-i-quiltaqa Kachina, the Pot Carrier.

I've been really missing working in watercolor lately, even while having a great time doing these oils.

Depending on my upcoming travels, I may switch to watercolor for these daily paintings. First, I need to firm up my travel plans and get going. Stay tuned.

Meanwhile, I hope you'll have a look at my newly reworked blog When a Painter Snaps…

The way a horse and rider move through the landscape has fascinated me since childhood. I hadn't taken it on as a subject until recently, though. I'm really happy to have finally gone in this direction. Some itch deep inside me is finally getting scratched, and it feels really, really good.

Clouds, too, are getting the attention I've wanted to give them for so long. I love doing these small daily paintings that are affording me an opportunity to cover so many different subjects as well as various styles and approaches.

My new series with step by step photo manipulations over on my other blog continues, so be sure to…

WAITING

Oil on Panel / 6 x 6 Inches

If you would like to own this painting, just email your bid to: farnsworthgallery@newmex.com

A quick, high-key study of a woman waiting in a restaurant. Just the sort of thing you might make brief notice of while waiting, yourself; people watching, your mind on other things.

ICED TEA Daily Painting #851

ICED TEA

(Study of a woman sipping iced tea through a straw in bright sunlight)

Oil on Panel / 6 x 6 Inches

I've always been a painter whose brush strokes were lost in the polish of smoothly rendered, flat, almost textureless surfaces. Since I started doing these small daily paintings, however, I have occasionally played with the idea of being more of a paint pusher. This semi-abstract study of a woman in bright sunlight is a result of that new, sometimes thrilling, sometimes daunting range of experimentation. Different subjects, different perspectives and different styles all go toward keeping me excited, interested, and productive. There is always more to be learned, more to be tried. Life really is grand!

Not too much to report in the adventure department. Since the dog show, I've been pretty much holed up here in the Palm Springs, Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert area, tending to Betsy, and catching up on computer chores. I have been so busy shooting photos and painting that I've allowed myself to fall way behind in my image maintenance. I was jolted awake when preparing yesterday's image for whenapaintersnaps, when all of a sudden, my iPad had no more space to save it. I've been working ever since in the beautiful Rancho Mirage Library, cleaning out, renaming, sorting, storing, and backing up images. I'm also working on creating a better work flow, so this won't happen again.

Shepherding images on the iPad is a whole new experience, but I'm beginning to grt the hang of it. I hope!

NOTE:

I've decided to start posting as soon as the blog is ready, rather than waiting for midnight as I have been doing. This has become difficult while traveling and trying to change to an earlier schedule.

NEW NOTE:

Thea has suggested that we open the bidding window to a week. So here goes. From now until further notiice the bidding will remain open for one week from time of posting. Please let us know how you feel about this change, pro or con. Any suggestions you have will also be considered.

We greatly appreciate the support shown by our followers, commentors, viewers, and, especially, our bidders and collectors. Thanks again to all of you from both of us.
