SOMEWHERE 'TWEEN HEAVEN AND HELL
Oil on Panel / 6 x 6 Inches
Remember my trip out to Victorville with my pal Steve Immel to pick up Betsy? Well as we were leaving New Mexico, I snapped a shot through the car window with my iPhone of this isolated farm, somewhere between Abiquiu and Crown Point. I'm not really sure where. We were moving pretty fast just then. Anyway, I've run across it several times while sifting through my research, and been tempted to paint it, but couldn't quite figure out what I wanted to do with it. Then, today, it struck me. Break a rule or two. Stick the horizon right half way down the panel. Thenbalance the tiny but important house equally distant from the larger but less significant barn. Crop the pond, even if it means losing all ability to judge its size, and, all together make it fit the title.
I almost always have a difficult time naming a painting, even after it's finished. this time I had the title first, and painted to it. No traffic, no noise, but no good restaurants, either. Somewhere 'tween heaven and hell.
I'm starting a new series with step by step explanations over on my other blog, so be sure to…
