BARSTOW SWITCHER / Daily Painting #950

Oil on Paper Mounted on Panel / 6 x 6 Inches

At the old train station in Barstow, California, there's a Route 66 Museum worth checking out, and in the yard, a number of old railroad cars and engines. On the way to visit my cousin, Martin and his wife, Jane, I spent a couple of hours photographing all the treasures.

I'm not sure this little switcher was ever needed in Barstow, as the giant 48 rail classification yard, where freight trains from Chicago are divided and reconfigured, then sent on to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, and other points, is operated wholly by gravity.

Martin is a retired BNSF mechanic, and once treated me to a one on one tour of the huge shops there. Thanks, cousin.

NOTE! I have a special new WORKSHOP coming up in July. Click HERE for details. I hope you can join us.
