LAGUNA PUEBLO / Daily Painting #1043

If you would like to own today's painting, Send your bid (Minimum $200) in an email to: farnsworthgallery@newmex.com, or call Thea at 505 982-4561

This is another watercolor inspired by one of my own photographs previously featured on my other daily blog, When a Painter Snaps. That is how I work. Some of the time. At other times, I work plein air, usually when traveling. Or I may work from brand new sketches or photographs. I like to keep myself guessing!

Currently, I'm wrestling with just how I want to continue this blog. As you may know by now, I have really loved and thoroughly enjoyed the daily 6 x 6 inch paintings. And the recent Confections have really been a blast. But I am missing the chance to do more of these full-fledged watercolors. I would occasionlly like to work larger, too.

So. here's my thinking at the moment. I'm thinking I will switch from the current format of always doing the same size and the same begining bid, or, as has been the case with the Confections, one price fits all, regardless of size or complexity, to a more varied approach. One that fits not only my love of varied sibjects and styles, but differing sizes and mediums, as well.

I will be offering everything from tiny sketches to full sheet watercolors, to both smaller and larger oils, and just about everything in between. I hope it will be more entertaining than confusing, and that you will all continue to follow along.

By the way, I hope to be traveling again, soon, and will try to make my verbal input more interesting as my adventures unfold.

I hope you will all help me with this. I would love to hear your thoughts. I so appreciate each and every comment, as well as your bids! Please, don't be shy, join in, let's make this blog as interesting as it can be, together.

CHURCH, SAN JOSE DEL VADO / Daily Painting #981

Oil on Paper Mounted on Panel / 6 x 6 Inches

Calfornia has some beautiful missions, true enough. But it's the simple, sculptural charm of New Mexico's adobe missions, churches and chapels that makes me want to grab camera or brush and get to work.

St Thomas Indian Mission Daily Painting #874

ST THOMAS INDIAN MISSION

Oil on Panel / 6 x 6 Inches

If you would like to own this painting, just send your bid in an email to: farnsworthgallery@newmex.com, or call Thea at 505 982-4561.

Atop the bluff known as Indian Hill, just across the Colorado River from Yuma, Arizona and the infamous Yuma Territorial Prison, sits the Saint Thomas Indian Mission. Founded in 1770-71 by Fr Garces, the mission was destroyed in an uprising of the Quechan Indians in which Fr Garces was clubbed to death. It was rebuilt as a replica, in 1922, on the original site, which had served for a time as Fort Yuma. that's a statue of Fr Garces on the left, in the forecourt of the mission.

After I finished today's painting, I drove across the Ocean to Ocean Brige to get e closer look. What I got was a rather ironic snapshot of the mission behind a sign leading to the tribe's casino. To see it…
