NAVAJO DOLL / Daily Painting #1070

Pen and Ink and Watercolor / 6 x 9 Inches

This little lady is based, loosely, on a doll that's been in our collection for about as long as we've been together. I'll bet she could tell some interesting stories if she could talk.

This is number fourteen in the popular new “Confections” series. I'm having a great time with these, and apparently so are many of you. Be the first person in with a $100 bid, and it's yours! That's right, the first hundred takes it. Don't wait!

Send your bid in an email to: farnsworthgallery@newmex.com, or call Thea at 505 982-4561

It’s time to start getting ready for THE KACHINAS ARE COMING. That’s the big Kachina show Thea wil be putting together of my Kachina paintings the first of September at David Anthony Fine Arts, here in Taos. I hope to see you there!

TASAF KACHINA / Daily Painting #1042

Watercolor / 7 x 9 inches

I've painted this Kachina, and, in fact, this particular doll, fom my own collection, previously on this blog. In fact, this doll was the subject of my first Kachina painting, in the 1960s. To learn more, just search for the name, Tasaf, above. This Hopi Kachina is a representation of their neighbors, the Navajo.

As you can see, I've decided to continue the current series of watercolors. i haven't, however, decided how long this will continue, nor, for that matter, what size I will eventually settle on. My best guess at the moment is that they will settle around 6 x 9 inches. I will probably alternate between the oils and the watercolors.

RICHARDSON’S / Daily Painting #1025

Oil on Paper Mounted on Panel / 6 x 6 Inches

Whenever I pass through Gallup, New Mexico, I always stop to take a few photographs along the main drag, Railroad Avenue (Old Route 66). A favorite spot is Richardson's Trading Post and Pawn. There's no other place like it. Old Pawn Jewelry, Navajo rugs, Kachinas, Guns and Saddles, Buckskins and Hides, Basketry, they have it all, and a lot of it.

Their windows look like they haven't been touched in a hundred years, yet they are different every time I visit. They are always good for subjects to feed my found still lifes series. Many of the paintings and photographs you've seen on my daily blogs were inspired by the content of those windows.

Today's painting of Acoma pots and a hand carved Navajo caraciture figure is a case in point. As is today's photograph.

TALKING GOD NAVAJO YEII Daily Painting #852

Oil on Panel / 6 x 6 Inches

Talking God is the lead dancer in the Yeibichai Dance , or Nightway Ceremony, a nine day healing ceremony held during late fall and early winter. He is followed by six male and six female dancers.

NOTE:

I've decided to start posting as soon as the blog is ready, rather than waiting for midnight as I have been doing. This has become difficult while traveling and trying to change to an earlier schedule.

NEW NOTE:

Thea has suggested that we open the bidding window to a week. So here goes. From now until further notiice the bidding will remain open for one week from time of posting. Please let us know how you feel about this change, pro or con. Any suggestions you have will also be considered.

We greatly appreciate the support shown by our followers, commentors, viewers, and, especially, our bidders and collectors. Thanks again to all of you from both of us.
