TITANIUM / Daily Painting #1329

Titanium / on panel / 5 x 7 inches / unframed

As I was scrolling through my research today, looking for something to paint, I happened to glance over to my painting table, and there was a found still life, all full of interesting angles and curves and light, saying paint me. So I did. An empty tube of Titanium white, Alkyd, on top of my traveling paint kit.

This one just needed to be five by seven instead of six by six, and because today was the day I had chosen to make some changes to my blog, notably a new way of bidding, I decided to start the bidding at $100 rather than the usual $200. So jump in, have some fun, and good luck.

To buy:

  • Enter your bid in comments, above
  • Opening bid: $100
  • Bidding increments $25
  • Auction to end at Noon on June 30, 2014.
  • High bid wins.

Gallery retail price = $600.

MY LEFT FOOT / Daily Painting #1307

My Left Foot / Oil on Paper Mounted on Panel / 6 x 6 Inches / Click on the Image to Enlarge

I woke up one morning in the beautiful Casa Laura, in San Miguel de Allende, and the first thing I saw was my left foot sticking out from under the covers, framed by the Cantera stone firepace. I knew I had to paint it, but I decided to wait until I got home so I could paint this one in oil. Wow. I didn’t realize how much I’d missed painting in oil. This one was a real blast.

FLOWER SHOP, GAUCÍN, SPAIN / Daily Painting #1296

Flower Shop, Gaucín, Spain / Ink and Watercolor / 6 x 9 Inches

Gaucín is one of the beautiful white villages, los Pueblos Blancos, scattered like jewels across southern Spain's Andalucia autonomous region. It was here that I spent the night recently with our good friends, Peggy and Steve Immel, noted painter and photographer, respectively, from Taos. They had rented a delightful small apartment in the heart of Gaucín, home of a number of expat artists.

STILL LIFE IN A SPANISH HOTEL / Daily Painting #1295

Still Life in a Spanish Hotel / Ink and Watercolor / 6 x 9 Inches

It was far and away the worst hotel I encountered on my entire trip. But it did have the most interesting things to paint and memories that will last; so how could I complain?

I checked in late and left early the next morning, swearing to read all the reviews when booking ahead on the Internet in the future.

THE WAITING ROOM / Daily Painting #1290

The Waiting Room / Ink and Watercolor / 6 x 9 inches

I have to admit, it's nice, getting my brush wet again. There is still a lot I want to do on the iPad, and I will definitely use it as a traveling studio, especially on extended trips. But watercolor has been calling to me for a while, now. But, then, so have the oils. I want to get in a bit more drawing time, too. Probably that will be on the iPad, for the most part. We'll see.

I think it's time for some rethinking regarding this blog. I think I should shake it up a bit. Here an oil, there a watercolor, sometimes a sketch or a drawing. Maybe introduce some larger works occasionally, with a confection the next day, followed by a photograph, or even something based more on words. A brief essay, or a review, a tutorial, or an explanation of a working method or just some random thoughts. It would still be a Farnsworth a Day, right?

What would you like to see more of? Let me know by leaving a comment.

I also want to get my website up to date, freshen up this blog, and start working on a book or two. Busy days ahead

A FRENCH COW / Daily Painting #1289

A French Cow / Ink and Watercolor / 6 x 9 Inches

My computer and my iPad are deeply involved in transferring, storing, and backing up the thousands of images from my just concluded trip to Mexico and Spain, and will be for some time.

Since I can't access the images from this trip, and can't use ArtRage3 with the iPad occupied, I decided to turn to a subject from an earlier trip, to France. And that now was as good a time as any to dip back into watercolor. So, here you have it.

VEJER FOUNTAIN / Daily Painting #1273

Vejer Fountain / Painted on my iPad / ArtRage3

A quick sketch of the fountain where I had my breakfast this morning, after spending the night in Vejer de la Frontera.

When I first saw Vejer twelve years ago, it was from the highway as we passed by below the village. The driver, from Hacienda Dos Olivos, told me it was one of the Pueblos Blancos, a term I was not familiar with, but that intrigued me instantly. Vejer was so striking, perched atop a hill covered in green trees and fields, sparkling in the afternoon sunthat I swore to return someday.

A few days later, I rented a car and started my first tour of the Pueblos Blancos, and spent the first night and the next day in Vejer.

Breakfast, by the way, was a delicious tapa of Smoked Eel cooked with black butter and capers on a bed of roast sweet potato on rye toast!!! Mmmmmm!

And on that note, I believe I will go to sleep, now, and dream of smoked eel.

¡Hasta mañana!

OLD MAN, JEREZ / Daily Painting #1269

Old Man, Jerez / Painted on my iPad Air / ArtRage3

Just a quick character study tonight. Time to catch up on matters technical. Downloading, uploading, charging, etc.

had a great day, walked a lot, watched a lot of people, saw a lot of the city, got thoroughly lost at least once, finally got a large, delicious cup of coffee, and at long last, found my way to some excellent Flamenco after sitting in on about an hour and a half of a very interesting Flamenco class.

Now to the tech stuff.

¡Hasta Mañana!
