I fell in love in the grocery store today! It was love at first sight when I saw these tiny Chilean Pears amid the usual crowd of fruits. They stood out magically from the rest. I had never seen anything quite like them.

When I averted my eyes to gather my senses, a plum appeared and I saw the painting I must do. And do it I did! Sadly, though, I caught a mere fraction of their elusive beauty, their almost electric glow, their delicate nature and translucent skin. We'll be seeing more of these two, I assure you as I try and try again to do them justice.

In the meantime, you might like to

For some unknown reason I had an urge to paint some fruit today, and when I realized at painting time that I was just across the street from a Trader Joe's, I popped in and bought some subject matter. Then I went out to the parking lot, hopped in my traveling studio, Betsy, and painted D'ANJOU AND THE RED. I hope you like it. Don't forget to…

It's easy to paint a pear.

It's not so easy to paint the “pearness” of a pear.

Probably that's why so many of us try so often. One reason, at least.

Hmmm, it feels good to do another fruit painting. Someone once called my fruit paintings the nudes of fruit. I'll accept that. I used to do a lot of them, but haven't done many lately. Don't know why, just busy doing other things.

We had a great stay at La Posada and got off to a very slow start. After a fabulous lunch at the hotel, and a brief look around town, we headed to Flagstaff, where I painted in the library, then we had dinner with our daughter, Rosa and her guy, John, and it was off to Phoenix for the night.

The Flagstaff Public Library was the first place to show my work, back in the late 'fifties, thanks to the very supportive and encouraging librarians Mrs Rolley and Ms Earnshaw. Thank you, ladies, wherever you are!
