HOW MUCH IS WRITTEN Daily Painting #793

HOW MUCH IS WRITTEN

Oil on Paper mounted on Panel / 6 x 6 Inches

Monday night and it's abstract time. Again. I'm anxious to hear your interpretations. It's interesting to me the way the act of painting these abstractions feels the same as painting my other subjects.

OLD TIMER

He’s been around a while. Quite a while. Chasing sticks, balls, Frisbees. He’s hunted and played, guarded and always been eager to please. A friend, family member, and loyal companion, he has always shown deep appreciation for every kind word, every treat, and ear scratching and all the love returned to him. He’s Jack.

STREET DOGS

Thea had a great idea for a show a few years ago when we had the gallery on Canyon Road. Street Dogs and Wild Buffalo. I had a lot of fun painting for that one! Dogs have long been a favorite subject, beginning with full sheet watercolors back in the eighties. I still do a lot of dog paintings, usually in my daily 6 x 6 format and in oil. Occasionally I do dogs in watercolor, still, usually as commissioned pieces. Mostly, though, the dogs I paint are those I encounter on the street, in the park, or even in people’s homes. I met Sam on the street in downtown Fort Worth, Texas.

BUCKING BULLS OF LA JARA Daily Photograph #1,656

While in La Jara, Colorado to photograph rodeo horses in the dispersal sale mentioned in yesterday’s post, I also got this shot of three rodeo bulls from the sale, as they drifted in from their pasture.

GREAT NEWS! It’s not too late to contribute to the making of BE HOME SOON!

This news came in a couple of days ago from Melissa Howden and Kickstarter:

Bowing in Gratitude

One of my backers texted me early this morning that the goal had been reached. Another sent a Facebook message – all before I saw it here with my very own eyes. 3 days to go and several people I know are still in the process…and the goal has been not only reached but surpassed.

I have said this to some of you and I will say it here again, I am truly Honored and Humbled by all of your support, and the faith you have shown by backing this project.

At this moment I am not sure what else to say. I am overwhelmed.

Because of you the film goes to the lab tomorrow and the sound designer today.

Because of you this film will see the light of day, or better a darkened theater.

With so much gratitude and love,

Melissa

ROAD TRIP Continued

We got to Socorro about 9:30, and the sidewalks were being rolled up, so we stopped at Denny”s for a tilapia dinner. Not bad, really. We pushed on to Albuquerque and got a room for the night. I painted CHOPSTICKS, and ran into several technological problems. I had used my iPad for blogging all during my two month travels, but, for whatever reason, couldn’t get anything to work though I worked at it until three or four in the morning. The next day we got home with no problems, unloaded and returned the Uhaul and I was home by around two. Our mini adventure turned out to be more of a quick trip. Quick and exhausting. And successful. That little pickup is cute as can be, fits right in in Taos, and purrs like a kitten. Speaking of which…

ATTICUS CATTICUS Daily Photograph #1,641

Atticus Catticus

ATTICUS CATTICUS

In case you just tuned in, this is Atticus, so named because he was rescued from our attic. He’s the new ruler of the studio; the whole house, in fact. He’s also started taking over the yard. But only if we’re really close by. This photograph shows him in a rare moment between playing and sleeping. Hmmm, sleeping. Sounds like a plan. See you tomorrow.

If you haven’t already, be sure to scroll all the way down to read about your chance to participate in the creation of a documentary Be Home Soon.

And start getting ready for THE KACHINAS ARE COMING. That’s the big Kachina show Thea wil be putting on of my Kachina paintings the first of September at David Anthony Fine Arts, here in Taos. I hope to see you there!
