AQUITAINE SPRING / Daily Painting #1330

Aquitaine Spring / oil on paper mounted on panel / 6 x 6 inches / unframed

While teaching a workshop in Eymet, France in May, 2009, I had the pleasure, along with my students, of visiting the beautiful medieval village of Beynac, in the Perigord region of south west France, which rises 500 feet from the Dordogne River to the castle, Château Beynac.

TITANIUM / Daily Painting #1329

Titanium / on panel / 5 x 7 inches / unframed

As I was scrolling through my research today, looking for something to paint, I happened to glance over to my painting table, and there was a found still life, all full of interesting angles and curves and light, saying paint me. So I did. An empty tube of Titanium white, Alkyd, on top of my traveling paint kit.

This one just needed to be five by seven instead of six by six, and because today was the day I had chosen to make some changes to my blog, notably a new way of bidding, I decided to start the bidding at $100 rather than the usual $200. So jump in, have some fun, and good luck.

FIELD GLASSES / Daily Painting #1326

Field Glasses / Watercolor / 7×10 Inches / To magnify, touch the Image.

Field glasses, that’s what we used to call them. Binoculars seems to have taken over as their most common name. I remember the heft of them, and the way they fit so snug in their felt lined, leather case. The way there was always a subtle “pop”, when they finally broke free of the case. Things are different now. I love the things that technology has enabled me to do, but I miss the feel, the smells, the sounds of those times gone by. I feel most fortunate to have lived then and now.

CAUGHT BY THE LIGHT II, SELF PORTRAIT / Daily Painting #1297

Ink and Watercolor / 6 x 9 Inches / Click to Enlarge

So, another stab at a self portrait. I don’t understand why the ink took over and came so dark. Anyway, I think it’s a better likeness than the last one, although it’s really about the light, more than it is the person.
