HOUSE BY THE ROAD
Oil on Panel / 6 x 6 Inches
Here in the city, I've been seeing a lot of homeless people, of course. But in my travels through more isolated areas I see a lot of “peopleless” homes. Both seem destined to slide into increasing states of ruin and decay. It would be great to see a way for these two shells of their former selves to be brought together in symbiotic relationships beneficial to both. This House by the Road is no McMansion, of course, but it is several cuts above a sidewalk steam grate, or a homeless shelter.
With all their problems, and of course there are many, even favelas and tent cities seem to me to be far preferable to life on the streets of a city. At least they can serve as places to start improving one's lot in life, whereas the street seems dead end at best.
I always wonder as i pass lonely looking houses in the middle of seeming nowhere, whether along a secondary highway, or the railroad, what life is like for the tjose who live there in drive by country.
