Flamenca Mexicana / Painted on my iPad Air / Art Rage3
Still exploring the possibilities in the ArtRage app. I like this more traditional work, too, but I miss the lines of the other pieces. Because I again worked alla prima on this one, the few lines I used were either eliminated or absorbed into the painting as it progressed. In other words there simply was no separate line drawing layer. The drawing was almost entirely done with the paint.
Tomorrow is train day, back up to Sevilla, so I'd better get some sleep.
¡Hasta mañana!
KIVA SHADOWS / Watercolor / 6 x 9 Inches
Regular followers are probably aware of my fondness for taking subjects as I find them, as in my “confections” series, as opposed to more formal set ups.
This menacing little Chaveyo Kachina from our own collection, though, having been painted several times, seemed ready to appear in a staged painting.
The one disappointment at the time I was privileged to witness dances in the Hopi Kivas, was the use of Coleman lanterns with their characteristically harsh, cold, white light. So I thought it would be fun to romanticize this scene a bit and paint it as I imagined it would appear by firelight.
Now, that was fun!
