This group of cottonwood trees is something I just can’t resist shooting any time I pass it on my way to Albuquerque. I decided to add a hint of a campfire to thescene by moving a spot of light from the setting sun, using TouchRetouch’s clone stamp and painting over it a little using the healing tool and the dodge and burn tool in Snapseed.
JUST ANOTHER NEW MEXICO SUNSET
SUMMER IN PROVENCE / Daily Painting #1316
Summer in Provence / Oil on Paper Mounted on Panel / 6 x 6 Inches / Click on the Image to Enlarge
I had just finished teaching a workshop at the 17th Century farmhouse, le Petit-Rousset just outside Eymet, France, five years ago, and was on my way from Bordeaux to Arles to see the Gypsies at Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer and the white horses of the Camargue, when I spotted this scene from the window of the train. Since then, I have come across it several times while browsing through my research. Every time, I have wanted to paint it. I even tried it once in watercolor and made a real mess of it. But today, when I saw it again, i knew its time had come. And I knew it had to be an oil. So I did it, and I think I finally got it.
