THE GOING AND COMING TREE / Daily Painting #1327

The Coming and Going Tree / Watercolor / 6 x 9 Inches / To magnify, touch the Image.

This lone tree stands as a guardian beside the highway leading into and out of Taos. It welcomes us home, and it promises adventure as we leave. Thea noticed on our last return, that it has died. How long will it stand?

TAOS GATE / Daily Painting 1041

Back in January of 2011, I posted a photograph, made from a shot I had taken some years earlier, on my other blog, When a Painter Snaps.

My first daughter, Leah, left this comment:

JANUARY 1, 2011 @ 2:23 PM
This picture is Wonderfull !! It reminds me so much of the gates that I opened when I was a kid and the river was up and we would have to take the long way into town. I must be getting old, it made me cry!
Leah Hurst

Here is that photograph:

And here's a watercolor that I painted today, based on that image:

Watercolor / 6 x 9 Inches.

If you would like to own today's painting, Send your bid (Minimum $200) in an email to: farnsworthgallery@newmex.com, or call Thea at 505 982-4561

That is how I work. Some of the time. At other times, I work plein air, usually when traveling. Or I may work from brand new sketches or photographs. I like to keep myself guessing!

Currently, I'm wrestling with just how I want to continue this blog. As you may know by now, I have really loved and thoroughly enjoyed the daily 6 x 6 inch paintings. And the recent Confections have really been a blast. But I am missing the chance to do more of these full-fledged watercolors. I would occasionlly like to work larger, too.

So. here's my thinking at the moment. I'm thinking I will switch from the current format of always doing the same size and the same begining bid, or, as has been the case with the Confections, one price fits all, regardless of size or complexity, to a more varied approach. One that fits not only my love of varied sibjects and styles, but differing sizes and mediums, as well.

I will be offering everything from tiny sketches to full sheet watercolors, to both smaller and larger oils, and just about everything in between. I hope it will be more entertaining than confusing, and that you will all continue to follow along.

By the way, I hope to be traveling again, soon, and will try to make my verbal input more interesting as my adventures unfold.

I hope you will all help me with this. I would love to hear your thoughts. I so appreciate each and every comment, as well as your bids! Please, don't be shy, join in, let's make this blog as interesting as it can be, together.

NORTH ON CA 78 Daily Painting #862

NORTH ON CA 78

Oil on Panel / 6 x 6 Inches

I spent last night dry camped on the desert between Glamis and Blythe, and enjoyed a great sleep with no noise at all. First time for that in a very long time. So nice to be out of the cities and out of the traffic, especially.

I took it really easy all day, walking in the desert, where I ran into a fearsome monster (You can see him by clicking over to whenapaintersnaps.) taking a few photographs, and driving liesurely up to Blythe, where this old cottonwood tree caught my eye just before I got to the Interstate, which I managed to avoid, except for the bridge across the Colorado River and into Arizona. Stopped at the Flying J Truckstop where gas is $3.19 instead of the $3.49 to $3.79 in California. Just ahead, in Salome, AZ, it's $3.04. OK, it's true, I'm turning into my Dad.

I use GPS Drive by Motion X on my iPhone. It finds routes for me that avoid Freeways and Toll Roads. I like that. I'm in no hurry, and want to see something more than the backsides of big rigs. But to get across the river here would have meant a detour of eight hundred to a thousand miles, and I do want to drive less for a while. It's time to slow down and smell the roses more. Or the creosote.
