Thea Says…

The painting SHAMPOO that went up today is a really good oil painting. Forgetting about subject and composition, the first things viewers look at, the paint on this piece is masterful.

SHAMPOO Daily Image #3

ShampooShampoo / Oil on Panel / 6 x 6 Inches

I was in Chicago recently, with some time to spare between flights, so I decided to checkout the Lincoln Park Zoo. I got a couple of good photos, but for the most part the animals were all as tired and hot as I was. Most were holed up in the shade at the rear of their enclosures. Then I came across the sparrows having a splash in a puddle. They were the highlight of my visit. And they sure knew how to beat the heat. I hope you will enjoy them as much as they were enjoying their bath, and as much as I enjoyed seeing, photographing, and painting them!

Sunset, Taos Mountain-©JohnFarnsworthSunset, Taos Mountain / Oil on Panel / 6 x 6 Inches

I photographed this beautiful, delicate sunset in Taos, several years ago, with my very first digital camera. The image was unsuitable as a photo, due to the low resolution of the camera. And somehow, I just never got around to painting it. Until now. With the new found freedom that this Daily Painting Auction affords me, I will be able to revisit many scenes that have long been in the back of my mind, just waiting for a chance to be expressed. Hang on; I promise it’s going to be a wild ride.

NANCE daily painting #1

Nance-6x6-john-farnsworth-300-©JohnFarnsworthNance / oil on panel / 6 x 6 inches

And away we go!
While visiting a dear friend recently, we were enjoying her garden when, unexpectedly, our lovely friend plucked an orange-pink rose and stuck it behind her ear. I snapped a couple of quick photos, and the result was this first painting for A FARNSWORTH A DAY. If you were expecting horses, don’t worry. There will be horses. And more people. And still-lifes, other animals, landscapes, florals; anything, in fact, that stops me in my tracks and cries out to be painted.

As a special thank you for kicking things off, today’s winner will also receive the sketch this was painted from:
