Currently, I'm wrestling with just how I want to continue this blog. As you may know by now, I have really loved and thoroughly enjoyed the daily 6 x 6 inch paintings. And the recent Confections have really been a blast. But I am missing the chance to do more of these full-fledged watercolors. I would occasionlly like to work larger, too.

So. here's my thinking at the moment. I'm thinking I will switch from the current format of always doing the same size and the same begining bid, or, as has been the case with the Confections, one price fits all, regardless of size or complexity, to a more varied approach. One that fits not only my love of varied sibjects and styles, but differing sizes and mediums, as well.

I will be offering everything from tiny sketches to full sheet watercolors, to both smaller and larger oils, and just about everything in between. I hope it will be more entertaining than confusing, and that you will all continue to follow along.

By the way, I hope to be traveling again, soon, and will try to make my verbal input more interesting as my adventures unfold.

I hope you will all help me with this. I would love to hear your thoughts. I so appreciate each and every comment, as well as your bids! Please, don't be shy, join in, let's make this blog as interesting as it can be, together.

RANCHOS DE TAOS

This was the view out our bedroom window a couple of days ago. That is it was part of the view; the view that also contains mountains, sky, old adobe houses, several more fields of alfalfa, orchards, ravens and magpies. The fields, though, are gradually giving way to development, with new homes and double wide trailers.

AT THE RODEO

One of my favorite places to photograph is behind the scenes at a rodeo, a charreada, or a Gaucho feria. I like getting inside the yeguada, the pen full of bucking horses and witnessing the herd sorting and subtle sgnaling that goes on. A subtle ear twitch on one side of the pen is responded to by a horse on the far side of the group. More obvious nipping and kicking results in rearrangement of individuals, deciding who gets first go at the hay and water, and a pecking order is quickly established. Bulls and steers are best shot through the fences, but no less interesting to watch.

The action of the human performers, of course, is a source of fascination as they stretch and twist, loosening their bodies, tightening and testing their gear, changing into their riding boots, adjusting spurs, getting ready for their race against time in the arena. As evening approaches, the animal performers, tired, fed and watered roll in the dust, stand quietly or, like these corriente steers, take a little siesta.

RED BULL

Oh, he can appear to be calm and docile, slow and languorous in the bull pen. His eyes can be huge and deep, and inviting, but out in the arena, with a cowboy on his back and a strap around his flank, he can be a big, fast, explosive, dangerous performer, and a favorite of the rodeo fans.
