COFFEE TABLE AND BRUSHES / iPad Air 2 / Leonardo / FrontView / Snapseed

Playing around with my iPad Air 2, I came up with this somewhat different view of one of my favorite subjects. These brushes are what's left of many recovered from a train wreck on the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe, west of Flagstaff, Arizona, back in the late sixties. I guess I'm going to have to get busy if I ever want to use them all up.

BRUSH BOUQUET / iPhone 6s Plus / Snapseed

As I was having breakfast yesterday, I glanced from the kitchen into the living room. The morning sun was streaming through the window, lighting up my collection of brushes. I decided it was time to try my new iPhone 6s Plus camera. A couple of quick adjustments, a little playing with the sliders, and this was the result.

Now, back to my research project…

Hasta mañana.

BOUQUET OF BRUSHES / Daily Painting #1387

Bouquet of Brushes / Oil on Panel / 6 x 6 Inches

Ordinarily, it is weeks, months, even years before I paint something I’ve seen. I saw this bouquet of brushes in a black earthen jar today, while visiting galleries with my friend, collector Jay Olson. I couldn’t wait. I wanted to get down a quick study while it was fresh in my mind, in prepartion for a larger painting I’m considering doing.

I apologize for the inconvenience.

FRIDA’S BEDSIDE / Daily Painting #1216

Frida's Bedside / Watercolor and Ink / 6 x 9 inches

These pencils and brushes were on the nightstand next to Frida's bed. For some reason, they've been on my mind all day.

We left Mexico City today, and arrived right at sunset at Casa Laura. More about that, later. But, for now, a short post and a soft bed.

¡Hasta Mañana!

I found this still life arrangement in the colonial hacienda at El Rancho de las Golondrinas. Did you see yesterday’s daily photograph of the chapel at Las Golondrinas? Did you click on the link to learn about it? If not, here’s your second chance. Just click on El Rancho de las Golondrinas.

EVENING SUN ON BRUSHES Daily Photograph #1,645

See the brushes in front, on the right? These are the only brushes I have used for the last couple of years, whether working on my daily 6 x 6 inch paintings, or larger works like Trillium Six, which is a painting 72 inches long, by 3 feet high. It’s a remarkable little brush. It’s inexpensive at around a buck and a half, very versatile, and able to cover surprisingly large areas with subtle variations in color and intensity, making for subtle yet more vibrant passages. A lot less cleanup is required, as well.

If you haven’t already, be sure to scroll all the way down to read about your chance to participate in the creation of a documentary Be Home Soon.

And start getting ready for THE KACHINAS ARE COMING. That’s the big Kachina show Thea wil be putting on of my Kachina paintings the first of September at David Anthony Fine Arts, here in Taos. I hope to see you there!
