THE APPOINTMENT

LUNCHTIME, MEXICO CITY

I love shooting street photography. I love shooting black and white. I love shooting color. People, places, things. Indoors, outdoors, through doors. Gritty, pretty. I love shooting street photography. Especially with my iPhone 6s Plus.

From Taos, New Mexico, hasta mañana.

STREET NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY

It was early evening in the Spring of 1973, when I first arrived at the plaza in San Blas, Nayarit, on a rickety old bus. As the bus groaned to a stop, a most unusual sound, one I had never before heard, filled the air of the then sleepy little village. There was a tree next to the bus, and what seemed like hundreds of Chanates, or boat-tail grackles, were going to roost. I fell in love with the screeching, clicking, mechanical, whistling, robotic din made by these birds. They are the main reason I returned recently to San Blas. I was delighted to find that they now cover the rooftops and fill the trees all around that plaza.

I was wandering the back streets of San Blas, when I caught this Chanate, lifting off.

Speaking of lifting off, or taking flight, that's what I did the day before yesterday. Now I'm sitting in front of the fireplace with the lovely Thea in our home in Ranchos de Taos, resting up for my next adventure.

FIFTEEN LITTLE PIGGIES WENT TO MARKET (AND ONE CABRITO)

This is what I saw when I took my street photography inside a Mexico City market, El Mercado San Juan de Pugibet in Mexico City. I went there for tapas in the famed San Juan Tapas, which is only half the size it was on my last visit in April of 2015; but the tapas were still great. I'm not sure, but I believe the change is related to their having opened another location in the city.

STREET FEET CDMX

I got a couple of good shots today, while walking around my old Mexico City haunts. This was a favorite.

From Ciudad de Mexico, Centro, Hasta mañana.

STREET ISN’T ALWAYS GRITTY

Sometimes what one encounters when shooting street photography is just, simply, beautiful.

Like this bowl of roses at the Fabrica Aurora area of Galleries and Antiques and restaurants in San Miguel de Allende, Gto., Mexico.

TRAVEL DAY

Long day. Wifi on bus from Queretaro to Mexico City virtually non-existant. Ditto for my room. So you're getting this from the restaurant where I'm waiting for my Octopus Machitos Tacos.

Ooo, my tacos just came, along with rice and plantanos. Delicious. Now, back to work…

I walked around a bit before heading to the bus and got a couple of street shots like this Mexican Still Life:

And this one I call Encounter:

I waited and waited for the guy to get out of my frame. Fortunately, I kept on shooting while waiting, and got this version that I like much more than the one I finally got with just the manikin!

I only had couple of minutes while waiting for my bus, but managed these two iPhone finger sketches…

Seems like everyone is on some mobile device.

Well, my tacos are all gone, and it's time to head back to my room.

From Ciudad de Mexico, no longer Mexico DF, Hasta mañana.

BARBER, QUERETARO

Is that Marilyn on the wall? Sure is, after all this time!?!

By the way, speaking of time, when I wake up tomorrow I will suddenly have turned 75. But I will still act 17 and feel 94.

Hasta mañana.

GUADALAJARA STREETS REVISITED

Busy, busy day, today, so I thought it a good time to revisit the colorful streets of Guadalajara:
