I encountered this Mountain Man re-enactor at the beginning of the annual Old Taos Trade Fair at the Hacienda de Los Martinez, here in Taos, New Mexico on a photo shoot with friend and fellow photographer Steven Bundy.
Oil on Paper Mounted on Panel / 6 x 6 Inches
It's been quite a while since I painted a Mexican mask representing a human as opposed to an animal mask. In the process of sorting, filing, renaming and as much as possible, organizing my research images, I came across this smiling fellow from Morelia in the State of Michoacan, with a curly moustache, and realized it was time to revisit the subject. So I did.
Sonrisa, by the way, means smile in the Spanish language, in case you didn't already know.
NOTE! I have a special new WORKSHOP coming up in July. Click HERE for details. I hope you can join us. Materials included.

I went to Argentina in 2008 in search of the Gaucho, Argentina’s equivalent of the Cowboy. I found the Gauchos of the Feria de Mataderos, http://johnfarnsworth.com/feria-de-mataderos.html in Buenos Aires, I was there for the Gaucho’s annual pilgrimage to the Virgen of Lujan, http://johnfarnsworth.com/gauchos-in-lujan.html. On a second trip that year, to attend the Fiesta de la Tradición in San Antonio de Areco, http://johnfarnsworth.com./gauchos.html.
