Still Life at Frida's / Watercolor and ink / 6 x 9 inches

We got in a day of museum hopping today, beginning with a taxi ride out to Coyoacán, for the Watercolor Museum, Museo Nacional de la Acuarela Alfredo Guati Rojo, where we saw an interesting show featuring the works of a Peruvian and a Cuban. This is a beautiful small museum, and also contains a permanent exhibit of Watercolor in Mexico from Pre-Hispanic times to the present.

Next, we re-visited the home of Frida Kahlo, the Casa Azul, where the iconic Mexican Artist, wife of muralist Diego Rivera, was born, lived, and died. This is a fascinating museum, and our favorite part is the kitchen, with its collections of ceramics and striking blue and yellow tiles. And the subject of today's painting.

We returned to the Centro Historico for a visit to show Thea Diego's mural, Dream of a Sunday Afternoon in Alameda Park, which was saved and carefully moved from its former location in the Hotel Del Prado which was demolished in the 1985 earthquake to its own museum.

We topped off the day with a walk through the Alameda Park and an exceptional last Mexico City dinner at my old favorite Los Girasoles.

Next stop, San Miguel de Allende.
